The optional extra HTM15b (Rotating Platform) extends the scope of HTM15a to demonstrate through direct student participation the precession caused by an applied couple. Description HTM15a is a gyroscopic wheel designed to literally give students a "feel" for gyroscopic motion. It is essentially a cycle wheel with a heavy rim having two handles for the student to hold. An integral cord pulley enables the wheel to be spun by another student. This equipment is part of a range designed to both demonstrate and experimentally confirm basic engineering principles. Great care has been given to each item so as to provide wide experimental scope without unduly complicating or compromising the design. Each piece of apparatus is self-contained and compact. Setting up time is minimal, and all measurements are made with the simplest possible instrumentation, so that the student involvement is purely with the engineering principles being taught.
